Penerapan Teknologi Inseminasi Buatan pada Ternak Sapi di Kelompok Tani Usaha Bersama, Desa Babau, Kecamatan Kupang Timur, Kabupaten Kupang

Abstract

Usaha Bersama farmer group partners resides in Babau Village, Kupang Regency. This group have  a number of cows but no bulls so it was difficult for them to produce offspring. One way that can be taken is to do mate with artificial insemination technology. The problem faced is that the farmers in the farmer group do not yet have knowledge about the stages of artificial insemination activities and how to implement the technology in the field. The purpose of this activity is to increase the understanding of farmers in Usaha Bersama farmer group about the positive impact of applying artificial insemination technology and to practice the technology directly on their cows. The specific targets are an increase in the pregnancy rate of acceptor cows after artificial insemination, an increase in the number of cows involved in the implementation of artificial insemination, and an increase in the skills of farmers in detecting estrus in cows. The method used in this service activity was a practical technical method that begins with socialization of activities to farmer groups, selection of acceptor female cattle, mentoring, training on recognizing signs of estrus, estrus synchronization, estrus detection, artificial insemination, and pregnancy examination. The number of selected acceptor cows for artificial insemination were 12 cows, and 9 out of them (75%) showed signs of estrus. After insemination, all the acceptor heifers did not show any symptoms of estrus again (Non return rate, NRR = 100%) and services perception was 1.
